About the Author

Jon Ross and his wife, Rachel, live in Huntsville, Alabama, with their four children, Everett, Dixie, Lennon, and Ellie. They have always been a family that loves stories in all forms. Whether seasonally watching certain movies to mark the occasion or binging an audiobook on a long car ride, stories are usually somewhere in front of them and often lead to conversations long after they are finished.Jon Ross is a lifelong nerd, especially in the worlds of aviation, mechanical watches, and guitar gear. Writing a book had been in the back of his mind for more than fifteen years, with the name Amzi Atkins chosen for the protagonist of his first story fourteen years ago. It took until his 40s to decide to carve out the time to invest in his first novel. The Dislocation is a culmination of three different story ideas that had been building for several years. The final piece came while driving home from an anniversary trip to Disney World with Rachel, somewhere beneath the Spanish-moss-covered trees outside Orlando. He approaches reading the same way he approaches movies: seasonally. Each February, his childhood favorite, The Count of Monte Cristo, appears on the nightstand again. Each November, The Hound of the Baskervilles resurfaces near the top of the Kindle library. His favorite writers include J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, H.G. Wells, Andy Weir, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. When discussing screenwriters, the top of the list usually includes Aaron Sorkin, Tony Gilroy, and the Nolan brothers. Movies have been a significant influence on Jon Ross and greatly shaped how he approached writing The Dislocation.Having served in worship ministry for more than twenty-five years, he found that some of the techniques he learned in his approach to guitar applied directly to creating a story. The notes left out sometimes matter as much as the notes left in. Timing is central, and tone sets the mood. When starting The Dislocation, Jon Ross found that story building was something he enjoyed greatly. He started in science fiction and time travel, but already finds himself wanting to try other genres he enjoys as well. He has also started work on the continuation of The Dislocation.
